Heinävaara Village

Heinävaara’s old village road cuts through a nationally significant landscape area known for its stunning scenery

Along this tranquil village road, one’s gaze can wander to the distant hills that stretch for tens of kilometers or focus on the intricate details of old barns, granaries, and cowsheds. While strolling along the village street, you can pause to admire goats grazing behind roundpole fences or the weathered charm of the small chapel, ”tsasouna,” and sit on the steps of the community hall. This idyllic cultural landscape provides a peaceful setting for creative work and relaxation.

”Seutu yllätti kauneudellaan ja talo tarjosi mitä parhaimmat puitteet sanojen kaivelulle. Story Villassa kirjoitin ensimmäisiä palasia toiseen kirjaani.”
Terhi Ilosaari, kirjailija, Suomi

Located at the foot of the hills, the modern Heinävaara coexists with the old village landscape. The nearest store is about 1.5 kilometers away from the residency, and the journey can be easily covered on the residency’s bicycles. Combined with the well-equipped village store, there is a small pharmacy and a post office. Heinävaara is now part of the city of Joensuu, and the city center, with its market square, is approximately 23 kilometers away. A bus service runs several times a day along the village road, with a stop right in front of the residency.
